Paddington Station … a group forms … the journey begins…
Everyone got to where they needed to be on time and
everything worked in terms of connections.
Our first day on arrival at the idyllic Arvon Centre at
Totleigh Barton involved settling into our room, exploring this 15th
century farmhouse and the grounds around, and meeting the people here – the
writers and the team who run the place. We welcomed Anna and Olga, two students
from Round Square schools from Denmark and Essex, and began to bond as a group.
There is a great sense of peace here and the countryside is bucolic (literally
– there are cows all around) which is already having a very positive effect on
everyone around.
In the evening, we had a lovely meal around the huge,
ancient oak table with produce from the fields around, and then finished with a
couple of introductory writing exercises which were great fun and broke the
ice.
Tomorrow, we’re looking forward to celebrating Ev’s
birthday and getting stuck into our first full day of writing sessions and
one-to-one tutorials.
