Normandy Day 4

Another early start this morning was made slightly easier by the delicious croissants which greeted us at breakfast.  Our first activity was the velorail - a disused railway line about 13km long - which we cycled down through the beautiful French countryside. After this we went to a traditional market where we completed some challenges before being tasked with buying the ingredients for lunch - in French...! We feasted upon cheese, saucissicon, salad, prawns, strawberries and crème fraîche. This set us up for the party activity of kayaking which was brilliant fun and gave us all a chance to cool down.

Normandy Day 3

Today has been an action packed day. After another hearty breakfast, we set off for our first activity which were the high wires. These were set deep in the heart of the French countryside and were pretty high up. Everyone did a fantastic job with lots of people overcoming their fear of heights and many others being really supportive and encouraging. After a quick pitstop for lunch, we headed to the beach for land yachting. Despite the hot, sunny day, there was lots of wind and we loved racing round the track, sometimes ending up on only two wheels!! Afterwards, we enjoyed an ice cream by the beach before heading home for supper consisting of snails - délicieux!

Normandy Day 2

Today has been a fantastic day of French sunshine, food and activities! We breakfasted on croissants this morning to set us up for a day exploring Mont St Michel.  We arrived at the coast and immediately took the short bus ride over to the island. We were impressed with the dramatic architecture of the Abbey and the buildings which surrounded it. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch before undertaking the three hour walk across the bay back to the mainland. During the walk we learnt about sealife and how to escape from quicksand and even enjoyed the spa treatment of being submerged knee deep in mud which is famous for its health giving properties!!

Looking forward to hearing back to our accommodation for a traditional French supper and some free time for games.

Normandy Day 1

We were overjoyed to see our coach this morning for our second attempt at getting to Normandy! We had a long boat journey, but enjoyed the chance to explore the boat and practice our card skills for the week - there was some quite competitive uno going on!

Looking forward to getting to our accommodation later this evening and to getting started on our activities bright and early tomorrow morning.

Normandy - Day 4

For our last day of activities we began in a French market. Our linguistic skills were put to the test when we had to buy all of the ingredients for our picnic lunch - some gesturing and miming helped!

When we had finished we travelled to the vélo-rail, a disused train line with carts which we pedalled up and down through the French countryside.

We came back and feasted on the fruits of our labours from that morning; salad, cheese, chicken, sausage and more cheese was followed by strawberries and cream. This afternoon we finished our activities with some kayaking and a BBQ tea before Latymer's got talent!

Normandy Activity - Day 3

Another busy day in France. We began with some land yachting on the beach which proved somewhat of a challenge when we began, but eventually the wind picked up and we were racing around the beach like pros!

Lunch and an ice cream on the beach was an enjoyable stop off before we headed off to do some high wires. This was great fun and some of us fitted in perfectly to this environment!!

Normandy - Day 2

For our second day of activities we headed to Mont St Michel.  We began with a visit to the beautiful Abbey which impressed everyone with its lofty position.

After a picnic lunch we enjoyed some free time when the heavens opened and we were thoroughly soaked before we began our 7km walk across the bay.! But as intrepid Latymerians, we didn't let a bit of wet weather put us off and everyone was in great spirits for the whole walk, making the most of the chance to paddle in the chilly sea!

We were very pleased to get home to warm showers and a delicious dinner!

Normandy Activity - Day 1

After a long journey yesterday we woke up this morning refreshed and revitalised and went native with pain au chocolat for breakfast all round.

A busy day awaited us with hiking, archery, mountain biking and a visit to a goats cheese farm. We enjoyed the opportunity to get to know our groups and have fun in the sun!

Normandy Day 4

Another action packed day in Normandy! We started with the market challenge when we were responsible for buying all of the ingredients on the shopping list to make lunch for thirty people - it was certainly a test of our French!  We just about managed it and only one group got confused and bought 7 slices of saucisson for 35 people as opposed to 7 saucisson! After this we went on a disused railway and cycled along this admiring the French countryside.  We enjoyed our picnic lunch and a quick game of inter-year football (4-4), before heading to do some kayaking. This was really fun and despite the fact that the sun wasn't shining, we enjoyed splashing about on the river.  The best bit was definitely the slide at the end!

Normandy - Day 3

We've had a great day of history today Normandy.  We started with a visit to Bayeux where we took in the cathedral and the famous tapestry and enjoyed the commentary with lots of interesting fact about the battle of Hastings.

Then we travelled to Arromanches where we had a picnic lunch before seeing a 360 degree cinema film about the D-day landing.  It was really fascinating to see how the whole day was organised and the way the harbour was built.

After this we went to a museum about the landing beaches and then had some ice-cream.  To finish the day we went to visit a British World War Two cemetery.

Normandy - Day 2

Another day of glorious weather today in Normandy! Today we split into two groups to do lots of different activities.

The first groups spent the morning going on a hike before visiting William the Conqueror's castle in Falaise

trying our hands at archery....

enjoying the views

... mountain biking.

The second group spent the morning doing archery and mountain biking and in the afternoon went on a hike and then to visit a goats cheese farm.

Everyone had a great day and enjoyed spending the day outside. We even managed some snails and frogs legs for dinner - delicieux!

Normandy - Day 1

Having had a bit of a late departure from latymer, we arrived in Dover just in time to see our ferry depart.

Undaunted, we caught the next one and were greeted in France with blue skies and glorious sunshine. After a long drive we arrived at our accommodation where we had a delicious dinner followed by value provided by Calum to celebrate his birthday before a quick game of football and bed in preparation for all our activities tomorrow! Bonne nuit!

Normandy Day 4

Another beautiful day in Normandy.  Our first challenge this morning was to go shopping in a French market for the food which we would need to prepare lunch - luckily we managed to impress the stall holders with our French!

After this, we went on the velorail, a disused train track which had carts to pedal up and down it, it was definitely very tiring - all that pedalling is hard work!  We thoroughly enjoyed all the meat, cheese, fruit and veg which we had purchased for lunch and it set us up perfectly for our afternoon kayaking.

This started off quite quietly, but soon everyone was splashing in the river and we really enjoyed going over the rapids and down the kayak slide, although some of the group had a few difficulties with the steering!

This evening we were treated to some French delicacies for dinner - frogs legs and snails, I'm not sure that everyone was convinced!

Normandy - Day 3

Another busy day in Normandy with lots of exciting stuff packed in!

We drove to the town of Bayeux this morning where we saw the beautiful cathedral before going and watching the events of 1066 unfold before our eyes on the famous Bayeux Tapestry - it was so detailed!

After this went for a picnic lunch, then watched a 360 degree film about the D Day landings before going to have a look at the remains of the artificial port that was built.  We then had some time to do some shopping and have some ice cream by the sea!

Normandy Day One

Normandy Day One

After a very long journey, following a rather uncooperative euro tunnel, we arrived at our picturesque accommodation in the heart of Normandy.

We enjoy a sumptuous three course French meal upon arrival and after a quick game of football went to bed exhausted and happy to be in France, looking forward to tomorrow's activities!
