UKSA Cowes Day 5

"On the last day the weather brightened up, counteracting the fact that there was no wind, which made windsurfing highly enjoyable. We played some tricks and I lost my shoe. The mud stole my shoe and I was scared of the jellyfish. They were big"

UKSA Cowes Day 4

Here's an update from the students on Day 4
"Today we kept drifting further and further away because there was no wind and the tide took us
to near Osborne House, the instructor in our boat kept on pointing at it and they had to radio back and eventually a power boat came out. But it took ages... The instructor was lovely she is called Fenny and we learned about how to rig up the boat"
Oliver Bird and Louis Jouhar

"Today the sea was quite flat, and there was not much wind. But we did not get sea sick. We played games to keep us entertained in the flat sea"
By Fabia Martin

"We took turns controlling the keel boat, the rudder, jib and sail... The sea was really calm and it was not as difficult as before and we had a lot of fun"
Aliya Ismagilova

"We are having such a good time. The UKSA staff made us very welcome and we took ownership of the keel boats"

Isabella Sportelli

"Sailing, brilliant chat... evening out lots of bonding, students getting the most out of this trip. Sat right in front of the marina... It was really lovely at sunset"

Oliver Bird

"The best today was that I did not get wet"
Matthew Corsellis

"Today our boat drifted and we were pushed into an area near Portsmouth, we got back to the base very late..."

Ashley Gautama

UKSA Cowes Day 3

No photos today but a lovely write-up from Pascale Loftus:

"Today we spent the morning doing quizzes and games due to the poor weather which was a nice break from the sailing. In the afternoon we focused on capsize drills, and despite our fear and the cold we all got in the water and did well! Issy (Isabella Sportelli) overcame her fear of the cold, and Tabz (Thabitha Burraway) overcame her fear of capsizing in general resulting in a fun and challenging afternoon. The strong tides and jellyfish proved troublesome for Me Jordan as he lost his shoes and received a large sting but despite this he seemed to enjoy himself too. It was a good day of team building"

UKSA Cowes Day 2

"Second day with keel boats, I found them slightly terrifying as they would tilt very far to one side... It was challenging as I felt I was going to be sick. On the good side, I was with my friends and they reassured me it was going to be ok"

UKSA Cowes

"Our activities week trip to UKSA began with an early start on Monday morning. The trip from school to the Isle of Wight took 2 hours by coach and ferry. When we arrived we participated in fun activities such as dingy sailing and knot tying theory. The weather was lovely and sunny for sailing, but it left a few people with some unfortunate tan lines from the wet suits. There also happened to be a unscheduled fire alarm that took everyone by surprise, including a couple of people who were midway through their showers. UKSA provided us with a very filling dinner of spaghetti and bolognese and the accommodation was very comfy to sleep in."
