Ireland Surf: on our way to Shannon airport

Ireland Surf and Turf Day 4

We took a trip to Westport where we rode horses through the forrest and around quiet residential roads. We were also allowed to wander around the town centre to buy gifts and have lunch. In the evening we had a BBQ dinner on a boat that took us through the fjord that we visited on the lost valley tour. The scenery was amazing!

Ireland Surf and Turf Day 3

We took a short coach ride to The lost valley, where Gerrard took us through his land and taught us about the history of the local area, told us Gaelic mythology stories, walked us through the magical old forrest, and gave us a demo of sheep herding and shearing. We also got to feed some lambs with milk. Gerrard also showed us a 6000 year old bog tree stump! In the afternoon we went back to the beach for more surfing!

Ireland Surf and Turf Day 2

Day 2: surfing and Kayaking

We arrived at the beach with our wet suits ready to go! After getting changed we took our surfboards to the beach and the instructors taught us how to be safe whilst surfing. Then he taught us how to stand up after we had caught a wave and how to jump off without hurting ourselves. After this we all ran into the water, surfboards in hand, and began to surf. The first time standing up was challenging but the instructors helped us stand up after a few attempts. Eventually as the time went by, everybody had stood up at least once and it was getting easier and easier each time. We all had a really fun time whilst surfing and cannot wait to do it again tomorrow!

In the afternoon we went kayaking: a lot of fun! Once we were in the kayaks we played some games which involved getting soaked and tipping over into the water! Mr Burns and Mr Gordon teamed up to ensure no one was left dry!

Surf and Turf Day 1

We arrived at Shannon airport and took a long coach journey to Delphi adventure centre. After the introduction we got cozy in our rooms. In the early evening we went on a small hike through a trail by the mountain. We saw frogs and enjoyed the beautiful Irish country. After dinner we played bingo with the teachers and ate cookies before going to bed.

Ireland Surf and Turf - Days 1 - 3

Day 1
Up early to make the Aer Lingus flight to Shannon.

A three hour coach drive through the stunning West of Ireland and arrival at the Delphi centre in time for a warm Irish welcome exploring the forest.

Day 2
A quick surfing lesson on the beach in the wind and rain! Lots of pupils managed to stand on their first attempt and the sun came out to bless us.  Then it was off up into the hills for a three hour hike, which followed an old route taken by victims of the Great Famine. Our guides were veritable founts of information, showing us old ruins, and the unique flora and fauna of the area such as the bog myrtle and sphagnum moss, topping it off with a couple of dead sheep which caught everyone's attention!

Day 3
Everyone was excited for more surfing today. But as the rain lashed the coach, faces started to fall. Again, we were blessed, the clouds lifted revealing the mighty Croagh Patrick and the sun shone down on us. Miss Ling declared the waves and water better than Cape Town. A quick bite now before we hit the kayaks.
