Having Mr Gilbert on this trip saved me from the dozen
questions that I was unable to answer and filled a much richer tapestry as we
explored two key events in British history today: the last great conquest from
Normandy by William the Conqueror and the invasion to liberate Normandy.
A
fascinating tour of the Bayeux Tapestry in the morning, followed by a relaxing
lunch overlooking the beautiful beaches and the remains of the
temporary harbour at Arromanches. Then onto a 360 degree cinematic
experience of the allied forces invading Normandy and into
Arromanches to take a look around the museum.
Finally a chance to peruse the
souvenirs in the local shops. Most of the students managed to avoid the hugely
overpriced items (especially in the Bayeux Tapestry gift shop), but most also
found something to gift or remember the experience.
A hugely relaxing evening was then had by one and all:
football being played, origami folded, swings swung, and a few watched the rest
of Saving Private Ryan with Mr Gilbert.
