Belgium - Day 5

On our last day in Belgium we went to the Atlantik Wall Museum, an open air museum which preserves fortifications of the Atlantic Wall dating from the First and Second World Wars. Students were guided around the site by two local Belgian guides. Students saw artillery, bunkers, uniforms, living quarters and even an Enigma machine.

We returned to School in the early evening, tired but very happy.

Alternative Latymer - Day 5

The Alternative Latymer trip headed to the Science Museum today for a 3D movie that inspired us to think big, followed by lunch in the NHM gardens, an ice cream and some time in the Wonderlab trying some hands-on experiments.

 

Tour du Mont Blanc - Day 5

Latymer Tour du Mont Blanc complete! 66km of trekking, with over one thousand metres climbed in elevation each day. Amazing weather and amazing attitudes on display throughout. A massive effort saw these Latymerians finish earlier than any group before.

We woke in Italy, we're now in France, soon we will be in Switzerland and we hope to be back in the UK for midnight! 

Bushcraft Survivial - Day 5

Students woke up early to clear away their tents and have a swift breakfast, ready to catch the 09:30 coach to Brighton. Once again, they showed their improved resilience, independence and proactivity in getting the job done efficiently and in effective teams.

After a lovely day in Brighton, where they were free to explore and shop with pocket money in groups, we are finally on the road back to Hammersmith. All of them are in good spirits and looking forward to seeing family and sleeping at home.

Please remember to find out about their highlights from the trip. Ask then what they have most enjoyed learning about, how they worked with friends and how they think they can apply their new skills in chasing their ambitions and pushing themselves in school. Finally, please make sure to encourage them to put themselves forward to help with cooking, washing up, making their beds, and telling you more about their skills and passions!

Eco-Explorer - Final Day

A morning mystery solving and shopping in St Ives then off to the train station for the short 6 hr journey home. On the train and being out done by a rather loud hen party, a little shocked to say the least. Phones in hand and quiet as mice on our way home. 

Eco-Explorer Day 4

A morning on the beach, swimming and playing games, then onto the Minack Theatre for some culture, Sense and Sensibility. 

The actors did well to keep our attention given the beautiful views and wildlife!

Ardeche goes to the beach

This fantastic trip takes us to two spectacular centres and we've certainly made the most of our time at the beach: catamarans, funboats, banana boats and beach games!

London Multi-Sports Day 5

Final day is at the Surbiton Raceway where we have a two hour endurance race. After a safety briefing and some practice laps the race is ready to start. Every year the teachers look like they are about to win until a mysterious penalty pushes them back into the middle of the group. Will things change this year?....

Surfing in Cornwall Day 4

Our final day of surfing began with what turned out to be a rather gruelling 25 minute paddle around the headland of Mawgan Porth to reach a secluded and otherwise inaccessible beach. Although exhausting, the journey was certainly worth it and we were able to enjoy our own private beach and some nice surf. The afternoon back on the main beach saw the tide turn and the waves increase, providing the best surfing of the week. Awards for top surfers of the week went to Tom Elder and Ciara Ball, and most improved were Felix Ramin and Zoe Scheske. 

The evening saw two football competitions played out, the more exciting of which took place on Mawgan Porth beach until the tide finally pushed us back onto the bus. A less memorable match saw England lose to Belgium, but the capacity crowd supporting from the Kenton Hotel enjoyed the camaraderie all the same. It will be a shame to depart such a beautiful place in the morning, and to leave what has been a wonderful group experience.

Surfing in Cornwall Day 3

Our second morning of surfing took place on Fistral Beach, “The Home of British Surfing”. The inevitable struggle to achieve great surfing on the gentle ripples rolling off the Atlantic was compensated for by the enthusiasm and energy of the instructors, who managed to turn the warm-up into a pretty substantial work-out and kept everyone active until lunch. Our much-anticipated meal at Rick Sein’s restaurant did not disappoint; mountains of delicious fresh fish, chips and ketchup swiftly disappeared into hungry children. Giving up on the waves in the afternoon, we set off coasteering our way round the rocky headland at the end of the beach. Picturesque caves, crystal clear waters, and stuff to jump off made the scramble around the coastline a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon. 

A highlight was Poppy Morris demonstrating her knowledge and appreciation of jellyfish. Mr Reeve’s team won a spirited game of ultimate frisbee, back on Porth beach with Melita Gostelow revealing a remarkable talent for the sport. After a much needed cornish pasty, we settled down for Mr Eddison’s Quiz Night, eventually won by Joakim Hess-Cohen et al - largely on the strength of their ability to identify the teachers when they were babies. An exhausting day in which we forgot to take any photos until sunset.

Paris Day 4

This morning, the two groups swapped over and so the group that cycled yesterday were cooking and vice versa (see yesterday).

Everyone loved their morning activity and learned lots about cooking and the history of Paris.

After lunch, the students had an hour to explore the Champs Élysées before we walked to the Eiffel Tower. From there we set off on a beautiful boat cruise down the River Seine. After that, we had dinner out in a traditional French restaurant in the Latin Quarter before driving back to the centre. A really fabulous jam-packed day and all in high spirits. The 11pm fire alarm (from too much deodorant spraying) really added some excitement too!
