Dartmoor - Day 2

After a great first day of pony-trekking or mountain boarding, spirits were high - most notably at 6:30am, a good hour before the agreed alarm time! Due to a slightly wobbly start on the kit-front yesterday, Sgt.Maj. Martin held a necessary kit inspection in preparation for the day's activities. The troops passed with flying colours, except the student who only had one shoe...

After a brisk hike followed by a bike ride to the Meldon Gorge, Sgt.Maj.Martin's troops prepared for action. Half the group went gorge scrambling, which was a welcome relief from the blistering sunshine, whilst the other group started with rock climbing. After lunch, there was a quick swap to the next activity. The gorge scramblers raced up waterfalls, jumped into pools and played a couple of swimming games. When rock climbing, the groups impressed with their tenacity and enthusiasm. The centre staff commented on how impressed they were with the students' attitudes to all activities; they listened well, were keen to get involved and very polite. After a quick cycle and hike home, we are heading into an evening of Quiz Night Fun.

Tomorrow brings Lake Day: canoeing, kayaking and team raft-building!
